Ape Shifter: Ape Shifter

Ape Shifter is a new instrumental rock band led by US born guitarist Jeff Aug, who has been residing in Germany for almost twenty years. Aug has an extensive discography including albums from his bands Sorry for Your Daughter and Banana Peel Buzz as well as three albums with Anne Clark. In his new outfit the guitarist is joined by Kurty Münch (drums) and Florian Walter (bass).

If you enjoy heavy instrumental guitar rock please read on. The riffs are powerful and the grooves are thick as this power trio really rocks with an abandoned yet controlled ferocity that isn't often heard on studio albums. Aug is clearly an excellent guitarist as his playing traverses clean melodicism to heavy metal fury to neo classical shredding with seeming ease. The album was recorded live in the studio with no overdubs and it certainly has that 'live' feel to it. A barrage of heavy guitar highlights "Uhluhtc" and "Desert Rock", the album's first and third tracks respectively. Although heavy the playing is quite diverse as the riffs turn heavier with more chug and the soloing flirts with neoclassical. The repeating progression in "Desert Rock" is as heavy as it is catchy. On "Revolution Summer" catchy riff progressions and a jam-like quality recall the Jimi Hendrix Experience with its mixture of psychedelia and blues. More heavy chugging highlights the ripping "Dopamatic" as well as the gritty heavy rock of "Hot Rod".

High energy octane fueled instrumental guitar rock is what Ape Shifter is all about. Check out the link below for more information.
