Eruption: Cloaks of Oblivion

This Slovenian band's third release Cloaks of Oblivion finds them incorporating early thrash elements of Testament along with the superior vocal stylings of Vicious Rumors and thus creating a very mature sounding record as evidenced by the title track which brings you through three decades of metal mastery and Eruption made it happen right now.

It's about time someone wrote about "Drones" and what a fantastic song. If I could I would demand radio stations play this song four times a day for about two years. It's that good on every level especially the bass line which reminds me of Eddie from Queensryche. "Reborn into Demise," "The Yearning" and "This Barren Existence" are tracks five, six and seven and represent the very heart of album's ultimate philosophical thrust and could literally be a mini-concept trio if ever released as an EP (I know, few use that term anymore, so what, it still applies.)

And concept album is where this consistently talented band should go in the near future. The vocalist Klemen Kalin is a superstar in his own right and brings Eruption to the forefront of metal performances which should easily translate to powerful live shows. He has a crispness and clarity in his vocal range that can both grab the lyric and the audience. My compliments to Cloaks of Oblivion a fully thought-out, brilliantly executed, finely produced album that is bound to land in the top metal releases of 2017.
