Montazeri, Marzi: The Uprising

"Heavy As Texas" guitarist, Marzi Montazeri has released a 6 track EP entitled, The Uprising, that features the vocal stylings of the infamous Tim "Ripper" Owens (Beyond Fear, Charred Walls Of The Damned, ex-Judas Priest, ex-Iced Earth). Their collaboration has spawned a riff heavy, Metal record with out of this world vocals and songs that will please the Headbanger in you.

Montazeri is probably best known as being the guitar player in Philip H. Anselmo & The Illegals, but on The Uprising, he steps out from behind Anselmo's shadow to deliver a brutal barrage of chunky riffs and speedy Texas fueled solos. The title track, "The Uprising" is an aural assault on the brain from the word go. Thick double kick drums explode, along with a staccato guitar riff that remind you of a Dimebag/Pantera type of crusher. "Without Warning" is another slice of awesome heaviness that twists and turns and never fails to not make your head bop up and down.

Heavy groove is paramount on The Uprising and Montazeri's guitar tone is thick and unrelenting, as are the fantastic vocal that Ripper Owens lays down (does this guy EVER disappoint?!!). There are some great Metal songs on The Uprising, as well as some great guitar riffs, but it is Ripper Owens that gives this effort true credibility and star power, if you will. Owens takes a really good song idea and breathes excitement and vitality into it and makes it his own. The Uprising is a really good EP and Montazeri can really kick out some tasty, beefy guitar riffs.
