Winds of Plague: Blood of My Enemy

Now 15 years into their career and a handful of albums under their belt, California deathcore collective Winds of Plague are back with a new album and new label, Blood of My Enemy for eOne Music / Good Fight Music. The current line-up of the band includes:

Johnny Plague Vocals
Adrienne Cowan Keyboards
Davey Oberlin Guitar
Michael Montoya Guitar
Justin Bock Bass
Art Cruz Drums

The bands penchant for symphonic death metal and metalcore remains ever present, as these twelve new tracks contain a wealth of pummeling riffs, orchestral keyboards, crushing breakdowns, growling vocals and gang styled backing shouts. Despite the brutal nature of much of the album, the tunes are actually kind of catchy, with tracks like "Kings of Carnage", "Nameless Walker", "From Failure, Comes Clarity", and the title cut containing plenty of hooks, the latter even featuring some gorgeous backing vocals from keyboard player Adrienne Cowan. If you favor the band at their relentless, orchestral best, check out "Never Alone" , "5150", and the bombastic, groove laden, near djent blaster "A Walk Among the Dead".

The production on Blood of My Enemy is top notch, the guitars & keyboards sound huge, and the songs overall are pretty engaging, mixing brutality with film score styled symphonic passages. In a time when deathcore is as cliche ridden as it gets, it's nice to see that Winds of Plague are still creating listenable music that doesn't completely tread down the 'same old same old' aisle.
