Split albums are a very good resource when you want to discover new bands. Compilations are also falling in the same category, although presenting usually just one composition. Splits have the advantage of offering a few songs, which are often exclusive tracks; another plus point.
Tenebrae In Perpetuum (great name by the way) and Krohm are both hailing from Italy; another good idea to put them on the same split. Each act offers three somewhat lengthy tracks, in the six/seven minutes range. Opening act is a duo made of Atranus (music, guitars, keyboards & vocals) and drummer Vidhar. The compositions are following a slower pace than their usual material. This allows a great atmosphere to crawl in with the help of freezing distorted guitar work and ghostly rasps. This ambience brings in a melancholic vibe. Some of the parts are more in their normal tempos with the furious edge that comes along with it. I especially enjoyed "I" and "II" from them. Second act is a solitary soul by the name of Numinas , who plays all of what could be heard. Again, we have great atmospheric /dark and ghostly tunes moving this time on a constant moderate pace. These compositions are filled with somber distorted arpeggios and the raspy vocals can show some wickedness on a few occasions too. The first and third tracks, namely "The Black Bridge" and "Sentinel Monolith" got my vote as my favorites.
For some very good somber Italian black metal, get your hands on this split CD.
