It would be fair to say that I didn't hold out much in the hope department when this one was passed in my direction. Black Metallers with a war fixation? Wow, that's original – never heard of that before, joy of joys! How wrong I was!
Hailing from here in the UK perhaps has helped the band to cut out some of the more tedious aspects of the genre – no rambling "atmospheric" keyboard interludes for instance. Instead, Blood on Snow features big thrashy riffs and concise, powerful songs which don't outlast their welcome.
The wheel remains firmly uninvented with screamy vocals, death metal growls, and spoken word passages all in place but such is the conviction of the band and so good is the song writing the listener is carried along with them. There isn't a stand out track as such (that doesn't matter because I can't see Eastern Front ever picking up much/any airplay) but taken as a whole this is a fine addition to the scene.
There's nothing in the eight tracks that will suddenly make you change your whole outlook on music but if you feel the urge to seriously annoy the neighbours, this album may well work for you – if not the neighbours.
