Red Silent Tides is the follow up to 2007's The Scythe (discounting 2009's acoustic outing Two Tragedy Poets (...and a Caravan of Weird Figures) which to be fair didn't float the boat of every reviewer although like all Elvenking's output I found it very enjoyable. This is also exactly how I feel about Red Silent Tides.
As long time followers of the band would expect Red Silent Tides is as catchy as man flu and full of thunderous riffs. I'd suggest that this is less folky than the rest of their oeuvre and more straight forwardly metal for the most part. Arguably, it's their heaviest album to date.
Red Silent Tides is a very solid record and if you've never bothered with Elvenking previously it's as good a place as any to introduce yourself to the band and if you're a lapsed fan you'll like this more than their recent outings.
