Circle Of Sanity: Circle Of Sanity

Circle Of Sanity formed in 2008 and are based out of Reading, PA. In the band are Josh Sapna (lead vocals, lead guitar), Dan Molkenthin (lead and rhythm guitar), Josh Austin (bass) and Kevin Horner (drums). Their debut self-titled EP is a solid 5 song set of straight forward heavy rock with some metallic edges on a couple of tracks. The songs are good with catchy riffs and solid musicianship. Having said that, nothing really blew me away but I am curious to see where the band goes next as Circle Of Sanity do show some potential.

The album's first two tracks, "Pictures" and "Sister", take a straight forward heavy rock approach with solid lead vocals and melodic riffs. "Sister" has a grungier sound and a pretty good guitar solo underneath the heavier riffs. "Streets of Madness" has a more metallic edge while still retaining its melodic sensibilities. The album's most interesting track is "The Oath" with tighter rhythms and more aggressive vocals although I would still be hesitant to label this as progressive metal. The obligatory ballad, "Wicked Savior", is saved for last. For a ballad it is a pretty heavy affair with increased tempos and heavy riffage in the middle section.

If heavier melodic rock is to your liking, Circle of Sanity may be a band to watch. I would like to see the band explore their edgier side a bit more on their next release so as to keep the interest level from waning, maybe even stretching their musical ideas a little farther. A full length album may be in the works this year so we will have to wait and see what the band comes out with next.
