Lamont, Bruce: Feral Songs For The Epic Decline

Dark, Moody, Monotonous, that is how the CD Feral Songs For The Epic Decline by Bruce Lamont begins.

Bruce Lamont, who performs with the progressive metal band Yakuza, is a true multi instrumentalist, as he does everything himself on this album, and when performing live.

There is a massive droning effect in the first song, clean vocals but alas noise and drone. Topped off with a touch of Sax playing, which really adds to the song.

In his work Bruce likes to add all sorts of different musical instruments as well as making use of the folklore , Tribal music or bluesy stuff. Creating weird structures and wide soundscapes is really what this man does with his music. Intense by means of the droning noises, but on the other hand somehow also relaxing. Apparently there is a wave length in sound that is used to get you in a state of Trance. I clearly had that experience in a few of these songs.

Bruce's voice is an instrument as well, with his deep delivery he can add vocals to maintain the same subtlety. Clearly not an album for a very wide audience but there is an audience for this type of musical experience. As long as you are not a person that is grabbed easily and wander off into a depression, you might enjoy this. It is not depressing music, but very dark and moody, and might influence your state of mind in that way.
