"Noisy Doom Rock" band, Immolate, is just exactly that, one noisy, plodding mess of a band. Sounding like a bad garage band version of Queens of the Stone Age or Clutch meets Jesus Lizard, minus any songwriting ability, Immolate doesn't offer up much to like on this their 2nd full length record, Ruminate.
This Aussie trio is high on over fuzzed out guitars, super thick bass pounding and paper thin sounding drums, mixed with 11 tracks that sound very uninspired and just flat out boring. Filled with out of key guitar noodling, ala Nirvana, and equally shoddy vocals that grate on your nerves, Immolate have mastered the craft of creating 11 songs that pretty much mirror image each other. The same tempo is found on pretty much each and every song, as is the lack of any type of energy. It honestly sounds like a band that was just going through the motions of getting this record done, albeit, they were in no real hurry to do so with the lack of energy put forth on ANY of the songs on this opus.
Immolate are definitely NOT my cup of tea and I was severely not impressed. There are a few re-used riffs on Ruminate from various influences and even those didn't do anything for me. This is just a very lackluster effort by a forgettable band. Next.
