Secret Sphere: Scent Of Human Desire

Metal Mind Productions has given us many a potent re-release of all but forgotten bands, many who are still making music but have fallen into obscurity. Such is the case with Italian power metalers Secret Sphere. This limited edition of their 2003 release Scent Of Human Desire will remind you fondly of those epic bands that permeated the scene back then. Groups like early Edguy, Rhapsody of Fire and maybe even a touch of Helloween seep into the sound of this third disc from the band. Lead singer Roberto "Ramon" Messina has the range and timbre that suits this style of music to a tee. Lead guitarist Aldo Lonobile and Rhythm six stringer Paco Gianotti provide this album with some heavy riffage and a little more punch than most of the time period. Aldo also adds some very melodic solos when called upon and combined with the keyboard work of Antonio Agate makes this a very good helping of high quality Italian power metal.

There are a few times though when it does seem that they have gone a bit over the top as when they seem to be trying for a Broadway type spectacle with the song "Surrounding" with it's backing choir that is a little much for my taste or the downright awful "Virgin Street 69" which sounds like a rough idea of a song that was never finished. Also the bonus track on this re- release "Kings Of Metal" is OK until you let the minute of silence at the end take over with what sounds like a toy keyboard accompanied by some chaotic laughter. This is a total waste of space.

Other than that, this package is a very good slice of epic metal that although it might not set the world on fire, it will satisfy your need for some fist pumping music with the soaring vocals that can wash away the problems of the day. This is a feel good disc and a dose of musical medicine that will help to cure what ails you.
