Broken Arrow: Abyss of Darkness

This is melodic metal from Italy, with the emphasis on "melodic." Think Dio meets Dokken by way of the Scorpions — certainly not what I expected based on the cover illustration of what appears to be a submarine spaceship grounded on the ocean floor surrounded by naked women. With a singer whose aggressive vocals meld with symphonic keyboards and crisp, tough guitars that avoid self-indulgence, Broken Arrow's Abyss of Darkness holds up well to repeated spins. Despite somes songs that strive for pretentiousness, this may not be progressive enough for some listeners. But Abyss of Darkness still possesses the power to suck you in. Bang your heads, my friends, bang your heads.
