There is no denying that Devildriver are without doubt one of the hardest working bands in metal today, releasing almost an album a year and touring relentlessly they have certainly stepped up to the mark…and then some.
Beast, the latest offering, is yet another step forward for this metal monolith and could be the most brutal yet. From the opening drum beats of "Dead To Rights" you just feel this is gonna send pits foaming with brutality at venues around the world. Heavy, yes, guitar solos, plenty, crushing riffs, you bet your ass!!! "Hardened" is a 100mph riff fest and "Shit List" pretty much in the same vein. Dez Fafara's vocals are raw and violent which demand you attention, however, not so much that the lyrics are lost in a sea of grunts. So with that in mind you'll be surprised to hear songs about lovely sunny days hand in hand with your loved one looking deep into each other's eyes. This is Devildriver, none of that Nickelback crap here; instead you get a pummeling of your internal organs into a big red pulp. This is a sonic master class and there is no substitute for volume and power. Beast is exactly that, a 'Beast' of an album and should ensure Devildriver move a few more steps up the metal ladder.
As well as three bonus tracks the special edition DVD includes a 90 minute documentary 'You May Know Us From The Stage' as well as Five music videos.
