Hmm… a band with a name taken from movie The Shining in 2011? It already makes me think twice about this German Doom/Hard Core Metal band. Filed under Doom Metal, Redrum Inc., is their name and on this, their full length CD debut entitled, Heavy Division, they bring a sound that is familiar to the likes of Crowbar, Biohazard and Pro-Pain. No great musical performances to write home about here but they do try to keep things on the heavy side.
Crowbar's Kirk Windstein (also in Down & Kingdom Of Sorrow) has taken Redrum Inc under his wing and sings on the track, "Carry The Burden" trying to add some New Orleans style street cred to this German outfit and Redrum Inc. gives Windstein some pay back with the cover of the Crowbar song, "All I Had (I Gave)". From Thrashy speed to Doom filled heavy grooves, Redrum Inc are trying to crave out some sort of niche for themselves in a genre that kind of sounds all alike. Vocals are not very understandable unlike ANY of the aforementioned bands, which DOES make these guys stand out a bit and musically, their chops leave a little to be desired too, but that is not something that has ever been a huge factor to this style of gloom and doom.
Overall I found "Heavy Division" to rather dull and lackluster. It doesn't have the aggression of a Biohazard and lacks the breakdowns of others in this genre. This record has a feel that is steeped in blood and oil and Redrum Inc. give off the feeing that they are hard working guys, but there just wasn't much to grab a hold of here. If you are into any of the bands that have been mentioned in this piece, by all means give Redrum Inc. a shot, they didn't do much for me and I still hate their name!
