Unseen is the seventh studio album by Swedish rockers The Haunted, and it has become quite an effort to get to this point. Anyone familiar with the band will of course know that they have been around with various line-ups since 1996. So about 15 years already. For this seventh studio recording The Haunted once again visited to the completely renovated Antfarm studios in Arhus , Denmark.
The Haunted's music has a high level of energy, the spirit these guys put in when recording comes oozing back out whilst playing the album. The music once again is a nice blend of styles, you have your happy hardcore- like vocals by none other then good old Peter Dolfing. Here and there we have also find the old heavy metal, or grindcore/death metal like sounds. The heavy basslines by Jonas Björler along with pounding drums by Per Möller Jensen drive the music forward as if there is no stopping them.
All while Jonas Björler and Jensen play the guitar as if their lives depend on it.
Unseen has become a well balanced album. Just listen to the vocal harmonies they now have on some of the tracks, for instance, the intro vocals to the "Skull". It sounds awesome. Clean singing is mixed in with the growls and shouts. A great mix.
All in all this seventh effort is as complete as they come, If you are into hardcore, heavy rock, and melodic death metal, then The Haunted's Unseen cannot be missed in your collection. Go out buy this, They are not in the mainstream of rock bands that have become overly popular but should be. You can easily measure what they do with more popular bands, although they are a little more obscure if I may say so.
Nevertheless, a well balanced album by these veterans.
