The band Goad was started in Florence, Italy by Gianni Rossi and his brother Maurilio during the late 1970s. They released their first album, Creatures at the end of 1983. The band, includes Maurilio Rossi (vocals, keyboards and guitar), Gianni Rossi, (guitar and backing vocals), Francesco Diddi, (flute, violin, guitars and sax), Vick Usai, (drums), Tommaso Baggiani, (drums), Luis Magnanimo, (bass), and Antonio Vannucci, (piano and keyboard).
This is a fantastic prog journey back in time with original sounds. All the elements are there for a classic. Flutes, keys, electric guitar solos, drums, heavy bass and good vocals. The album also includes a big five part epic closer full of fantastic instrumentation and vocals. The sound feels like it was recorded live there is so much energy. At times you feel like you've been transported to a Deep Purple album, at others it's early Genesis. "Eldorado pt. 1- pt. 2 (Heavy Run)", "The Judge", "Valley of Unrest", "Alone", "Intro (classic guitar prelude)", and the five part epic closer, "Masquerade (with Dance Macabre)" were my favorite highlights. If you like the band, this should be part of your collection. If not, give this a try if you are looking for a different sounding vocal and presence, while keeping to some time honored traditions.
