Anima Morte: The Nightmare Becomes Reality

Swedish instrumental quartet Anima Morte have released The Nightmare Becomes Reality the follow up to Face the Sea of Darkness. They are a band that has been influenced by some of the masters of this approach, Goblin, Ennio Morricone and Fabio Frizzi but to name a few; music that has been inspired by the cult Italian horror and giallo soundtracks.

This classic progressive rock approach relies heavily on the use of Hammonds, Mellotrons and Moogs that build eerie and atmospheric tones. There is some nice guitar noodling woven into the instrumental structures that gives the whole sound more depth. The band has also very cleverly found the right balance between electric and acoustic soundstages that work really well together, offering a modern interpretation on a retro sound.

The instrumental titles leave you under no illusion of the approach of this music, which thankfully is well structured as opposed to being chaotic and irrelevant sound bytes, manipulating the dark and experimental arrangements without loosing any of their strong musical themes, which keeps it all very interesting.

Mattias Olsson has performed an outstanding job where he has produced a very clear and precise soundstage for the band, finding balance of all the musical interaction.

If this is a genre or approach of music that appeals to you, then Anima Morte's The Nightmare Becomes Reality is highly recommended. The real excellence of the band is displayed on tracks like "Corridor of Blood", Passage of Darkness", "The Nightmare Becomes Reality" and "The Dead Will Walk This Earth" but to name four, which sums up this very atmospheric and interesting album, making them a band to watch in the future.
