This is the first installment of ISIS' series of five live albums. Recorded on September 23, 2003 in San Francisco, it contains four tracks. "Carry" kicks things off in great fashion with Clifford Meyer's keys playing a big role in creating the atmosphere for Aaron Turner's growled vocals. Meyer also makes "Hym" an unforgettable experience, particularly during the end. This is where Jeff Caxide's bass is central to the whole track with droning guitar sounds supplied Mike Gallagher. Additional guitarist Dominic Aitchison contributes to "Weight," again built around myriad soundscapes courtesy of Clifford Meyer with Aaron Harris' steady, trancelike beats.
Personally, I will always prefer ISIS' studio albums and I think Wavering Radiant was such a great way to end their career. With these posthumous live discs, they are giving their die-hard fans something special. ISIS Live I will make a good addition to completists' discography, but those of you willing to check out only one or two of the bunch are advised to look into Live II and Live III, as they contain more songs.
