After releasing their 2008 debut, Sign of Doom, Brazilian extreme act Grave Desecrator is back with a second effort.
Again, the cover art is pretty self-explanatory as for what is the musical direction of these lads. Brutal it is of course, with a touch of melodiousness. This is how I could describe their blackened death metal music. You have good riffing, some black and roll ones, as well as tasty crushing guitar work. The lead playing comes in handy to put a nice melodic edge here and there. Tremolo pickings are also frequently used, and you can hear solos on just about every composition. The Brazilian horde has included some samplings (beastie sounds mostly) and a tad keyboard touch in a couple tracks. They can vary their tempos in the song, so this is not the all fast paces type of music, fortunately. My overall favorite tune is on track #11, "The Satanic Coven". On this instrumental number, Grave Desecrator has come up with distorted leads, crazy guitar solo, a nice doom & crushing vibe and varied paces. All that being said, this second effort does not deliver anything other than a straight forward dose of black and death metal. Don't expect an outstanding CD, although the guys are pretty good musicians, especially the guitar players.
Insult is for those fans of 'in your face' brutal music.
