Robin George's LovePower: LovePower and Peace

Imagine an album that has a cast list that contains among many others Ken Hensley (Uriah Heep), Pete Way (UFO/Waysted), Sean Harris and Brian Tatler (both Diamond Head), Conny Bloom (The Electric Boys/Hanoi Rocks), 'Fast' Eddie Clarke (Motorhead/Fastway), John Wetton (Asia/King Crimson) Spike (Quireboys), Chris Slade (AC/DC/Asia), Chris Thompson (Manfred Mann) and Pino Palladino (Genesis/The Who). Add to that list, hugely respected soul singers Jaki Graham and Ruby Turner and saxophonist Mel Collins (Bad Company/10CC/Dire Straits), honestly I could go on, but you get the idea by now... Then add into the equation that all the artists who have contributed to this album (over 60 in all!) gave their time for free, as did the studios, the design team and in fact everybody involved in the project, so that all the proceeds from the sale of the CD could go directly to three fantastic and deserving charities (Macmillan Cancer Support/Haven House/Compton Hospice). Then you'll begin to get an idea of exactly what Robin George, who has recorded with everyone from Robert Plant and Phil Lynott to Glenn Hughes and John Wetton has achieved with LovePower and Peace. The resulting album is a glorious journey through genres and styles, resulting in seventeen songs that have been painstakingly crafted into perfect examples of everything from soul and blues, to AOR and all out rock, without ever feeling like they shouldn't belong together. In fact when the musicians involved are of the calibre collected together here, the songs begin to transcend genre stereotypes, instead just becoming phenomenal music.

There's a great mixture of soulful, yet rocking bluesy tracks in the shape of 'Seven Golden Daffodils', 'World' and the first single from the album LovePower and Peace, while the likes of closing pair 'Next To You' and 'Angelsong' play the album out on a classy acoustic style. In between, Damage Control (George/Pete Way/Spike/Chris Slade) belt out the raw in your face rock of 'Alice', John Wetton gives an unmistakably passionate performance on the Asia like 'Wasted Time' and a version of Phil Lynott's 'King's Call' which is a fitting tribute to the much missed Thin Lizzy mainman, with George putting in a stunning vocal. That's only part of the story though, with Robin's arguably, most famous song 'Heartline' being performed by the band Life, which he was in with Nick Tart (Diamond Head) and to hear the track given a hefty kick of guitars without losing its infectious melody, is a real treat. Then add in a mid paced rocker from the band Marshall Law, where singer Andy Pyke excels, the enigmatic electro AOR of 'Mona Lisa Smile' that Robin performs with Pete Goalby (Uriah Heep/Trapeze) and the beautiful acoustic guitars of 'Tired Eyes' which Robin recorded with the late great David Byron and you really have an album full of undiscovered gems - and I haven't even mentioned the stonking cover of 'With A Little Help From My Friends'!

With a ridiculously talented collection of musicians and fantastic performances everywhere you turn, there are already a huge amount of reasons to buy LovePower and Peace, but when you factor in that that the songs on this album are of the highest standard and that every penny raised will go straight to the extremely worthy charities, then you really have no excuse not to get involved with the LovePower and Peace cause.
