The first thing that hits you when you play this 5 song EP is the dynamic vocal ability of songstress Mina. The second thing that comes to mind is she deserves much better material than what is on this disc. Hailed as Evanscence meets Heart, I would have to say that she may come close with her voice but certainly not in songwriting ability.
The style is billed as gothic but is much more of a heavy metal feel that you can hear in many a bar band throughout the land. The closest they come to what they promote themselves as is the track "Beautiful Death" that has a kind of old world/darker feel to it. The remaining 4 songs could have come from a multitude of hard rocking bands out there. I am not saying this is a bad disc, far from it but there is nothing that grabs you musically. Mina is a powerhouse singer but her talent is really wasted on this disc. I hope that it draws the attention of someone who can help as the thought of her teamed with a songwriter of equal talent would make for one magnificent album.
As the lead singer for the band The Taken, Mina has established that she can make some waves in this genre. She just needs to realize that her voice cannot make up for sub standard material. It certainly makes you take notice but ultimately you will come to the same conclusion.
