Um, ok...In this latest release in the Rock the Cradle series, Def Leppard guitarists Phil Collen & Vivian Campbell deliver instrumental versions of many of their classic tunes, in lullaby style. Not sure exactly what the market for something like this is out there, as much of what you'll hear on Dreamin' With Def Leppard is extremely laid back and in some cases you really have to listen quite closely to even figure out what the song is. It's all competently played however, as the twin guitars of Phil & Viv, whether it be acoustic, electric, slide, or pedal steel, weave some of the memorable melodies found on classics such as "Pour Some Sugar On Me", "Hysteria", "Love Bites", and "Bringin' On the Heartbreak". The slide work is especially good, giving everything a Derek & the Dominos meets The Marshall Tucker Band feel. That characteristic though presents part of the problem-most folks who would be interested in this are no doubt die hard Def Leppard fans, who will be used to the upbeat & bombastic original versions of these songs. While the guitar work is quite nice here, this is really sedate and laid back music whose purpose as background fodder or tunes to drift off to sleep to seems pretty apparent, but I think overall that is the point in this 'lullaby' series.
Worth a listen perhaps for fans of Def Leppard and the two guitarists, but hardly essential.
