Tormenta is a fairly new thrash metal act from the Maldives - certainly not an area known for being abundant with metal bands. With that said, these guys have made an entrance that will make the country proud. Tormented Souls is the band's first EP, and a pretty strong one at that! The musicianship is generally strong, the riffs are memorable, and the vocals are raw as can be. The EP lacks a bit in the form of originality, but it's still a strong effort. This one should please fans of more heavy-edged thrash metal.
The music on Tormented Souls is thrash metal with lots of death metal influences and occasional groove sections. Think bands like Slayer, Sepultura, Metallica, and Lamb of God. This sort of style has been done to death in recent years, but Tormented Souls's quality compositions and great musicianship make it still worth a purchase for fans of extreme thrash metal. The raw production and terrific vocal delivery should make any old school thrash fan headbang like a madman! Though this EP rarely reaches above the "average" mark, it's a promising start for this young band and 3 stars are well-deserved.
