DeVille, Willy: Come a Little Closer
This is a best of the live tracks compilation of the late Mink De Ville lead singer's collection of songs. The live tracks are compiled from his shows, from 1977 through 2005, taken from venues in diverse settings like the Netherlands, Montreux, and Berlin.
Willy's vocals have a unique sound and his backing music lies somewhere between Ian Hunter and Bruce Springsteen, with maybe more of Springsteen's sound including Clemon's sax. His shows were said to be legendary in their length, originality and the scope of his personal delivery.
For me the best tracks are the covers of Hendrix's 'Hey Joe', Bryan Ferry's 'Slave to Love', and the Academy Award nominated song, 'Storybook of Love', Willy wrote with Mark Knopfler. 'Demasiado Corazon (Too Much Heart)' is another album highlight.
If you're a fan of Willie's, here's a great chance to get a compilation of his best live tracks in one CD. If you're new to his sound, then this is a great introduction.
