Ambivalence: Silicone Magic

I thought this was just a French band and I was wrong! In any case, Ambivalence is from the Eastern European country called Ukraine. The bad was formed ten years ago and has a couple demos and full lengths under their belt. This is a five piece group that has two drummers and a female guitar player in its ranks. A string of session members also brought their own touch.

Ambivalence is a death metal band, but not your middle-of-the road type though. This is not a typically and purely brutal and repetitive extreme bunch. Though you have parts that fit into that categories, their music is much more diversified and complex than that. You might find those musicians a bit weird at first. Hopefully, you'll give them time to more appropriately understand what they are doing. This is intricate music with frequent twists and turns. One moment you have a technical death metal with stop and go patterns, the next it is faster and furious, only to end up into something lighter and even comical. Keyboards are playing a cool part in this variety show. They switch from dark to techno and then turn on they humorous style. This might throw off some of you by the way. This type of compositions can only be written and played by crafty and gifted musicians. Even if it might appear to some as being anything being thrown at your face in no orderly fashion, I am convinced this was well thought of and carefully produced. Most of the time, this is a more technical work, but melodiousness was allowed in as few places, giving a bit of breathing space. This short 32 minutes disc has plenty of good songs to offer. To name a few: "Apathetic", "Silicone Magic", "Narkosis" and the cool instrumental "Prelude".

If you are in the mood for a twisted and cool death metal disc, Silicone Magic is out there waiting for you.
