Out of Finland, here is an extreme metal act coming back since their debut LP, The Age of Fire, which came out six years ago.
Finland is well associated with extreme music and this is not the first time we get to hear a black metal act from there. You will find nothing new to sink our teeth in on this disc. Nonetheless, March Into Firelands managed to grab my attention in more than one occasion. No, not in those fast and furious moments, commonly found in black metal, but in the rather more melodious times. That's right; the moderate parts are where to find the goodies on this disc. That is where the crunchiness of the guitar playing is at its best. Then you also have intros and outros that have their good shares of samplings, such as: wind, water drops, thunder, rain and even church bells. The sole fact of having varied paces makes this album a pleasant disc to spin. Add to this the fact the musicians are not bad players at all, and that they can introduce intricacy like in the time signatures, are all factors helping the listening experience. Tracks like: "Flaming Magic Assault", "Gateway to the Birth of Lunacy" and especially "Firelands" are worth checking. All the elements combined here to form what I called a melodic and violent piece of Scandinavian black metal.
Not that original as such,March Into Firelands has its interesting times on this 36 minute album.
