Bad Company: Live at Wembley (Blu-ray)

In a time when so many classic rock singers are finally starting to show their age, from both a physical & performance perspective, it's great to see some of them still in great shape and belting it out better than ever. Glenn Hughes, who we've talked about many times over the years on this site as being somewhat of a 'freak of nature', and Paul Rodgers are two that instantly come to mind, both sounding better than ever despite being in their 60's. Rodgers and the rest of the reunited Bad Company are featured on this superb Blu-ray release from Eagle Rock, documenting their performance at Wembley Arena on their 2010 tour of Europe. Joining Rodgers here are original members Simon Kirke, Mick Ralphs, along with former Heart guitarist Howard Leese and bassist Lynn Sorensen. Original bassist Boz Burrell, who took part in the 1999 reunion, unfortunately passed away in 2006.

This is a fast moving, professionally shot concert of very high quality, as the band play in front of an adoring sold out crowd in London. All the major hits are here, as well as some unexpected deep album cuts, making for a pleasing set for loyal fans. Though it had been 30 years since Bad Company last played London, the crowd welcomed them here with open arms, especially on legendary tracks, "Can't Get Enough", "Run With the Pack", "Feel Like Makin' Love", "Shooting Star", "Rock and Roll Fantasy", and of course "Bad Company". More obscure, but equally as compelling cuts such as "Deal With the Preacher", "Burning Sky", "Electric Land", "Movin' On", "Ready for Love", "Simple Man", and "Seagull" are all given royal treatment here, with Rodgers' powerful voice soaring to the heavens over crunchy blues rock riffs from Ralphs & Leese. The range that Paul Rodgers still has is astounding really, and it's hard not to be completely amazed at his still potent delivery on each and every song here. I could have done without the tune "Young Blood", but otherwise this a very strong set.

Audio and video here is excellent, as the crisp camera work and layers of lights benefit from the high-definition format. Toss in some interviews with the band as they talk about the tour & show, and you have a fantastic Blu-ray release from Eagle Rock, who have a complete hold on the classic rock market right now.
