Copenhagen's The Cleansing sophomore album 'Feeding The Inevitable' is nothing but pure, violent death metal. The heavy guitar and raging drums of opener 'The Promethean Promise' fleshed out with the Egyptian-infused breakdown shows a distinct Nile influence. Not a bad thing at all. 'Third Eye' maintains the heaviness and, after a very atmospheric intro, so does the slow, heavy groove of 'Your Flesh, Your Curse'. 'A Cheating Progression' launches straight into the devastation that continues into 'Hour of Decadence'. The haunting and sinister 'Processed for Contamination' deviates again from the norm with its melancholy melody and slow and deliberate groove. 'Law of Reciprocity' shifts the album back into full-blown death metal territory with a spoken word section and some inspired lead work. And closing tracks 'Two Days' and 'Crossroads' are both ferocious.
With speed on their side, even in the slow parts, this is a punishing album. The musicianship is incredible. The combined guitar work of Hasseriis and Lynge is extraordinary, their riffs mighty and their lead breaks are melodic and shredding and used to embellish the songs. Eld's vocals are typical cookie-muncher death growls and fit the mould of each song seamlessly. And Haarløv's bass and Løwe's drums sharpen up the bottom end with a monster of a sound. The songs are varied and distinctly different from each other but beneath the unique sound of each of them is the band's well-defined identity. If death metal of the utmost brutality is your thing, this is it.
