Swedish multi-instrumentalist, singer and songwriter Chris Antblad's notable collaborations include Joe Lynn Turner and the pop project Spin Gallery. But on Century, essentially completed three years ago and delayed by a previous record label, Antblad goes solo — incorporating elements of jazz into his mellow AOR.
With a soft, sweet voice ideal for this kind of music, which contains elements of Bryan Adams, Paul Carrack, Mr. Mister and latter-day Chicago, Antblad effortlessly sings his way through 13 compositions. Some of them, like the opener "A Fire Burning" and the closer "Living On A Lie" are tasty pieces of ear candy with an mm-mm-good aftertaste. In between are perfectly accessible songs with killer harmonies and hooks that may just appeal to the gentler, more commercial tastes of SoT's far-reaching reader base.
