1990 saw Irish guitar legend Rory Gallagher add some different elements into his brew of blues & hard rock, such as zydeco, R&B, and boogie, on the album Fresh Evidence. As it turned out, Fresh Evidence was to be Gallagher's last studio album of original material before his death a few years later.
Though overall the album isn't quite up to the normal Gallagher standards, there are still plenty of sizzling tracks here, such as the rousing, hard rocking opener "Kid Gloves", the scorching blues rock of "Alexis" (where Rory certainly gave Stevie Ray Vaughn a run for his money), the acoustic Delta blues cut "Ghost Blues" (complete with some wild slide), and the gritty shuffle of "Heaven's Gate", which contains the most blistering solo on the entire album. Of the two bonus tracks, "Bowed But Not Broken" is the strongest, this one a rousing mix of hard rock, blues, and country, with great vocals from Rory and crisp guitar work.
As with all the Rory Gallagher reissues, Eagle Rock has done a great job here-the CD sounds excellent, and the booklet contains photos and full track info.
