Mr. Ziblat is a multi-instrumentalist who was born in Argentina and now lives in the Netherlands. He plays all the instruments besides the violin and viola which are handled by Sonja Helasvuo.
Songs from the Drawer is a solo project from Lonny and it is made of eleven original compositions and a Paul McCartney cover, "Tomorrow". Off the original material, you have three instrumentals. "The Ska is the Limit" is reminiscent to The Flower Kings and Zappa with its comical edge. "My little Qualities" is a dreamy piano piece; while "Walter your Plants" is a short, still nice, piano and keyboard number. "Tomorrow" faithfully reflects Paul's vibe with pleasant vocals harmonies, sweet melodies, piano and acoustic guitars. It has a certain degree of cheesiness in the keyboard solo, but we know some of Sir Paul's music had that ingredient too. Every time I listened this album, one name came kept coming to my mind: Paul McCartney. These sweet songs are so reminiscent to Paul's early work and even Lonny's voice has a certain tone that is similar to this famous icon. I don't mean to say he's copying his style as such, just that his feel goes way to the early seventies. The only few differences are in the use of classical guitars and a few comical parts being scattered here and there. The use of strong bass lines is also directly coming from Paul's book of songwriting. The acoustic guitars are heard in a few places as well, but the strumming is sometimes a bit too heavy for my liking. You'll find them in songs like: "Funny Honey", "Tomorrow" and "Black Hill". The participation of the violin and viola is found in the opening track, "How Far is Leiden". On the last number, "Stel", the musician has chosen to write the lyrics in Dutch.
All along Songs from the Drawer, the listener will be charmed by melodious musical patterns that brings one's mind to the early seventies mood and feelings.
