In Solitude are a fairly new band that hail from Uppsala, but listening to their new CD The World. The Flash. The Devil you'd swear that some of these tunes were recorded in 1980 during the rise of the NWOBHM. Galloping rhythms, twin guitar assaults, and epic sounding classic metal is all the rage here, as In Solitude bring to mind acts such as Mercyful Fate, Iron Maiden, and Diamond Head, with a little bit of modern death & black metal tossed in for good measure. In some respects these guys remind me a little of 3 Inches of Blood, as both bands seem to be going for a similar vibe, and you can also say Ghost and Hell belong in this little retro party as well (technically, Hell originated in the early 80's anyway). Singer Pelle Åhman does a great King Diamond mid-range impression, and there are guitar leads aplenty throughout this CD. Not sure I'm nuts about the flat production, which sounds a tad dated, but with riff-tastic tunes like "We Were Never Here", "Demons", "Poisoned, Blessed, and Burned", and "Dance of the Adversary" taking you back to the great metal days of the early 80's, you can easily overlook that.
