Asterius: A Moment of Singularity

Looking for a little splash of light in your black metal? Look no further than Asterius, a German quintet that mixes and matches progressive, black metal and goth with such glistening originality that you forget how disparate those genres can be when in their purest forms. With Andrash and Sirius (who doubles on guitar) trading lines of light and dark through tracks such as "Another Me," a melodic, cinematic journey that soothes as many edges as it rubs raw, and "The One Perspective," where Sirius and guitar partner Sataar create a thick, billowing mass of guitar that sears and scars with uncommon clarity, it would seem that Asterius' cup should runneth over but it never does. In fact, somehow that cup always seems to get deeper, with nary a drop spilled.
