Stray From The Path: Rising Sun
Long Island's Stray From The Path are a band with attitude that aren't messing around, going straight for the listeners throat with their high fuelled aggression. Unfortunately Rising Sun doesn't bring anything new to the table, this is just an average Hardcore punk / Metal Core album. It is a genre that some American bands seem to find easy to participate in.
Unfortunately the music does become insipid, although self-titled track Rising Sun, Dead Rabbits and The Laughing Man do offer some excitement, but in all honesty after a time it does all become much of a muchness.
Musically it's precise as one would expect with this genre, having a solid foundation that does call to mind such bands as Burnt By The Sun and The Cancer Bats. It has a technical construct that does noodle at times offering perfect execution seeing the band playing with some interesting ideas which are far and few between. The lyrical content is full of honesty, no matter how blunt it is, but in essences it is still not enough to save the album.
On balance though at just over 30 minutes, the band has not overstayed its welcome offering a 2011 spin on the early 2000's genre, an approach that fans of this genre may lap up.
