Seven Steps to the Green Door: The Book

Thoralf Koss has crafted, along with his bandmates from Seven Steps to the Green Door, a 52 page media book in support of this epic story and piece of music. Koss, along with Ulf Reinhardt, on drums and percussion; Marek Arnold, on keyboards and saxophones; Heiko Rehm, on bass; Andreas Gemeinhardt, on guitar; and Lars Kohler and Anne Trautmann on vocals help bring this epic storyline to life with lyrics and music.

The story centers on the trials of the character Samuel and his loss of identity during a dream. It delves deeply into the subjects of religious belief and the afterlife set to classic sounding prog music.

Although the music and especially the female vocals are wonderful, you have to be willing to make the jump with the authors into the storyline to be able to fully appreciate the lyrics and then the whole story.

Still the music is a wonderful flashback to the quality and style reminiscent of the 70s, which in itself is refreshing. It's epic and deep in its magnitude, which again is hard to find today from new music. The keyboard and guitar work is some of the best I've heard all year. Yet, it's stuck within this story that you must either accept or deny. Few elements or tracks stand out enough to be taken on their own. They are all locked within the storyline.
