The Bunny, The Bear: If You Don't Have Anything Nice to Say…..

The Bunny, The Bear is an experimental, electronic, alternative rock band hailing from Buffalo, New York.

A first glance at the cover of this debut release sees a drawing of a bunny and a bear with the bear holding a little girlie (I guess). The bunny is pulling out the insides of the girl and trying to cut it with a pair of scissors. This immediately sets the tone of expectations for this album. Let alone the name of the band.

Now what can you expect when listening to the music of The Bunny, The Bear? The title of the first track leaves no doubt as to, yes, the lyrics are of an explicit nature, not to be listened to by minors. Ah well, try to understand what the vocalist sings in the first track, I cannot determine what he is growling. I must say that the music sounds pretty interesting almost of a progressive rock, avantgardistic nature.

Very surprising, as the growling was not actually that, but seems this is supposed to be the bear making noises. All along listening to the music it has some fabulous twists and turns. The use of electronics and acoustic instruments as well as the "normal" instruments of rock bands is refreshing, yet the texts and music are very explicit and not for everone to comprehent and digest.

For this the album cannot be ranked as a must have although fans of the more alternative styled music like for instance bands as Mars Volta might find it very enjoyable to listen to, though the vocals will be hit or miss with some.

All in all this is a surprising release by to me an unfamiliar band.
