Divine Ascension: As the Truth Appears

From Australia comes Divine Ascension, and As the Truth Appears is their debut release on Nightmare Records. Led by the dynamic vocals of Jennifer Borg, Divine Ascension play a symphonic power metal style that will draw instant comparisons to Nightwish, Epica, After Forever, and Within Temptation, but they possees solid songwriting skills and killer musicianship, making them real heirs to the genre throne and a band that needs your immediate attention.

Soaring, powerful vocals, crunchy riff-o-rama, sweeping keyboards, and memorable songs...yep, it's all here on As the Truth Appears. Opening track "Answers" is like a marriage between Nightwish & Evergrey, as Borg pairs off with a male vocalist who sounds very much like Evergrey's Tom Englund, and cuts such as "In My Mind", "Visionary", and "Garden of Evil" posses plenty of punch in the guitar department yet always retaining that killer sense of melody and symphonic flair. "Vision Divine" is a must for any epic, symphonic metal fan, and there are plenty of proggy moments in this gem as well to really sink your teeth into. The grand & majestic "Guided by Osiris" offers up intricate, churning guitar riffs amist huge beds of orchestral keyboards while Borg's vocals soar to the heavens...magical stuff. Dramatic closer "Unscathed" takes things to another level, and will easily nudge you to not only raise your fist in the air and headbang but also to wave that lighter or cell phone along to the sweeping melodies.

Impressive stuff all around here from Divine Ascension. If you are a fan of majestic symphonic power metal, you'll need to get your hands on As the Truth Appears.

Divine Ascension: As the Truth Appears

My Score:

"Answers" gives those wondering about the sound of this new Australian female lead vocal, symphonic power metal band an immediate response. Jennifer Borg's vocals are dynamite. The band supporting comes charging from the gate like the start of the Kentucky Derby. The male supporting vocals compliment Borg well. The drums, yes, the drums are heavy and full of thunder. The launching lead electric guitars roar toward you like waves from thunderous ocean storms. Off and running…at full speed.

"Visionary" doesn't lose any pace as the band keeps the pedal to the metal and Borg keeps up the pace. Another fast, out of the gate rocker.

"In My Mind" slows things down to give you a chance to appreciate Borg's haunting vocals. Still the power unfolds with brilliant drums and excellent keys and lead electric guitars.

"Vision Divine" is one of the best tracks on the album. The keys and drums make for an epic background as Borg plows ahead through the surrounding firepower.

"Guided by Osiris" brings all the power the legend carries with it.

"One Last Caress" is another of the best tracks on the album. Full of drum and guitar firepower and Borg's vocals match every step of the way. The lyrics add to the momentum that is building.

"Garden of Evil" is the most epic track on the album. Powerful lyrics, vocals, and excellent keys, guitar and drums.

"Another Battlefield" is full of powerful lyrics, delivered with commitment from Borg.
"Civilization" is musically one of the best songs on the album. The keys that open the track are excellent.

"Unscathed" is another epic keyboard, guitar and drum fantasy – themed powerhouse.

This Australian band is made up of Jennifer Borg, on vocals; Karl Szulik, on lead & rhythm guitars; Robb Inglis, on rhythm & lead guitars; and Luke Wenczel, on drums. Off to a good start. They are on my watch list now.
