Norwegian melodic metalist Acelsia has released this four song EP which will certainly have an effect on you. Waking the night after listening to this album you will notice a sore neck from the constant headbanging. Know as a bangover, this will surely bring a smile to the face as you remember some terrific guitar work and a band that can really bring on the metal. The other effect is the piercing headache that will come from the operatic vocal style of lead singer Malene Markussen. Sometimes a combination like this works but in this instance she is just a bit over the top.
The songwriting is excellent and when Malene sings without trying to shatter glass, it is a terrific bit of melodic metal. The last song on the disc called "Still Undone" is an example of what they can do with a little restraint. I would love to hear more of this type of stuff but if they stick to what seems to be their main focus than I will pass for sure. Guitarist Marius Pedersen adds some tantalizing growls to this closer that is by far the strongest piece on the EP.
This is a mixed bag that will not come off the shelf again I am sure. The one good song on here is not enough to make me go through the rest of the disc. I hope they stick to their strength for the next offering as the potential is there.
