Infernal Legion: The Spear Of Longinus

Naming an album after the spear that proved Christ was dead is one way to ensure that it's clear what your band is about, and Infernal Legion are nothing less than an anti-Christian band for whom subtlety is not an option. And opener 'Reborn Through Bloodhshed' is as subtle as, well, a spear in the still twitching corpse of a martyr. Relentless drumming beneath relentless riffage and relentless death grunts, The Spear of Longinus is not for the faint of heart. Furious throughout, Infernal Legion throw out an unending series of brutal riffs and complex guitar parts in solidly structured death metal salvos that are laced with equal parts bile, vehemence and fiendish melody. Doug Stern and Eric Armstrong's guitar work is astounding, shifting between death metal razored riffs and huge grooving chugs effortlessly. Epic in size, Infernal legion's campaign is as brutal as is Deicide's but as with Deicide's latest, it too offers little in the way of innovation. That's not to say that it's no good, far from it. This is a tight piece of work with a bunch of killer death metal tracks that can take a mighty swipe at most of the crap that's being churned out in the scene right now. And it's available just in time for Christmas…
