HB: Jesus Metal Explosion

HB is a Christian symphonic metal band, formed in Forssa, Finland in 2002. The band is led by the beautiful and epic vocals of Johanna Aaltonen; with excellent piano and keys from Antti Niskala. Samuel "Samppa" Mäki-Kerttula plays drums; Tuomas Kannisto brings the deep bass sounds, and Sofia Ylinen and Bob complete the soundscape with incredible guitar riffs and imaginative power.

This is good symphonic heavy metal with a powerful message behind their music. They are proof that Christian metal bands can have a harder edge and still play in the same league as some of the giants.

The album highlights for me were "Loaded", "It is Time", "Hands of Grace", "King's Design", "Joy Upon the Lord", and The Lord of Lords". "Loaded" is a powerful drum and metal guitar powerhouse and might have been a better choice as the album opener. "It is Time", is absolutely the best track on the album, full of fire power on drums and keys, with an excellent melody, which Aaltonen just accentuates with her playful vocals. The piano opening on "Hands of Grace" is wonderful, and then Aaltonen takes over with her delicate vocals.

A great sampling of their work here and with their latest album "The Battle of God". Looking forward with anticipation to their next album.
