Man or Astro-man?: Your Weight on the Moon

It would be quite easy not to take Sci – Fi Surf Rockers Man or Astroman? seriously, which would be quite an injustice really. Don't get me wrong, there is an element of goofyness and novelty factor to the band who don't take themselves too seriously, with pseudonyms like Starcrunch, Birdstuff and Coco the electronic monkey wizard really highlights the point, but there is so much more to this band when you scratch under the surface.

Make no mistake Your Weight on the Moon maybe a re-issued compilation but it is an album that is full of fantastic musical interludes that does display the bands virtuosity. The offerance here for the most part is instrumental with B-movie samples thrown in for great effect, guitar freakouts that are courted by a backline that is tighter than a ducks arse which is all married with electronic experimentation from the Hammond and Theremin.

Even when vocals are included on Destination Venus it is still party time, bouncing melodic sonic waves that just carry you along and that my friends is the order of the day throughout the whole album.

If you are unfamiliar with this band then this is the perfect place for you to become acquainted, their highly energized and infectious approach will drag you into their cosmos, a location that you will enjoy, stratospheric meanderings that don't overstay their welcome, short precise and succinct tunes.

There are added bonuses here, this release includes two EP's added to the running order, a sixteen page booklet and more importantly some of the featured tracks make their cd debut.

Does the world need bands like this? Definitely, this more than demonstrates that music shouldn't take itself too seriously and that it should be fun.
