Recorded at venues in Hamburg & Munich, Germany during their recent tour of Europe, Live Over Europe shows the supergroup Black Country Communion if fine form and every bit living up to the hype they have received. Now with two CDs under their belt, the band rip through a large selection of songs from those releases, plus a couple surprises, on this high octane, killer Blu-ray.
Glenn Hughes, Joe Bonamassa, Jason Bonham, and Derek Sherinian-with a pedigree that includes time spent in bands such as Deep Purple, Trapeze, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Foreigner, Alice Cooper, Dream Theater, Yngwie Malmsteen, UFO, Gary Moore, and Billy Idol, you have to know the results are going to be good. As superb as the two studio releases from BCC have been, live we are talking about another beast altogether. This is 70's styled heavy rock with a blues feel, and the band deliver it with power and conviction, charging through stellar songs like "Black Country", "One Last Soul", Beggarman", "Save Me", "Cold", and the rockin' "Sista Jane", amongst many others. Bonamassa is the real secret weapon here, as the young blues player struts his rock side in a big way, delivering meaty riffs and sizzling solos on "Faithless", "Man in the Middle", and the unbelievable "The Battle For Hadrian's Wall". Hughes still has the pipes of doom, and is a terrific frontman, as he prowls the stage with his bass like a man possessed, really wowing the crowd on the bands encore of the Deep Purple classic "Burn". Bonham's drum barrages are spot on throughout, and he finally seems to be coming out from the shadow of his legendary, and late father John. Let's not forget Sherinian, who adds plenty of colors and textures here, as well as the occasional smoking Hammond or synth solo. Another real treat is the band doing Bonamassa's "The Ballad Of John Henry", giving it a real 70's hard rock feel, BCC style.
The Blu-ray comes with terrific video and audio quality, so feel free to push your home theater system to the max. Toss in a documentary filled with interviews with the band & producer Kevin Shirley, and a great 20 page booklet, and you have a must own Blu-ray for every hard rock fan out there.
