Worship the Animal features the original line-up that recorded the Nile albums, Amongst the Catacombs of Nephren-Ka and Black Seeds of Vengeance; Karl Sanders, Guitars/ Vocals, Chief Spire, Bass/Vocals and Pete Hammoura, Drums/Vocals. This EP contains pre Amongst the Catacombs of Nephren-Ka recorded material. Fans of Nile's more recent output will be a little surprised at the rough nature and lack of polish on these recordings, though it's still Nile and you can see how they went from these humble beginnings to the technical death metal powerhouse they are today. There is still a somewhat technical nature to these songs, but the tight precision that we've come to know and love had yet to come to full fruition, and the vocals are weak, not the deep growls & bellows of more recent years.
For the most part, Worship the Animal is something for Nile completists only, but it's still worth a listen for those into technical death metal and want to hear some of the early sounds of one of the leaders of this movement. "Surrounded By Fright", "Mecca", and "Worship the Animal" are pretty bludgeoning death metal monsters no matter how you look at it, though not up to the level of later Nile fare.
