V.I.D.I. is the sophomore release from Polish hard rock/metal band Leash Eye, and produced by none other than Orion from extreme metal juggernauts Behemoth. Despite the lackluster band name, Leash Eye are a pretty formidable unit, with a style that draws upon classic 70's hard rock, stoner, doom, and modern metal. Imagine bits of Black Label Society, Deep Purple, Clutch, Led Zeppelin, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Black Sabbath all dumped into a blender and you get an idea of where V.I.D.I. sits.
Plenty of Zakk Wylde inspired heavy riffs & pinch harmonics, raging Hammond organ, whiskey drenched vocals, and pounding rhythms grace the grooves of V.I.D.I., so fans of this style of heavy rock will find much to love here. There's some serious headbanging happening on "Road", "Headin' For Disaster", and "Warmth" approaches a level that is almost a perfect marriage of Black Sabbath & Deep Purple. Some of the lyrics are a bit on the silly side ("Open Up Chris", "Trucker Song", and "One Time, Two Times"), but the music can be so gut wrenching and groove laden that you can easily overlook it.
Though there are certainly some better retro styled bands going today, Leash Eye have put together a really fun album here. It's not perfect, but if you are looking for an excuse to check your brain at the door and just enjoy some crushing songs that drip with classic elements, this one's something you should check into.
