Stillborn: Los Asesinos Del Sur

This Polish quartet came into being back in 1997. The current line-up is made of founding member Killer (guitars and vocals); Tolovy (bass & back vocals; drummer August and second guitar player, Rzulty. The band has a couple of demos and three full lengths at their credit this before brand new album.

Los Asesinos Del Sur might have some sort of exotic feel, but there is nothing that warm or welcoming on this 31 minutes disc. Quite the contrary since this is a purely venomous and blasphemous black metal output. A look at the track listing will let you know this is not a relaxing or holiday destination. On these, mostly short 2-3 minutes tunes, the listener will witness masterful musicianship executing (literally) some vicious black metal anthems. Tremolo pickings and blast beats galore meet wicked vocals in an infernal mayhem. This is extreme music alright! This tight act is showing professionalism in a high quality sound production environment. To makes matter more interesting, for us music lovers, is the fact that Stillborn has injected moderate parts in this hellish soundtrack. Indeed, and this is where these guys come to be more interesting, they have created some great crushingness where the guitar work excel in bringing those nice and juicy riffs. Opening track, "Overture.966" and "Blood and Dust" are just two examples when you can get those axes delicacies. My overall favorite composition is on position # 8, the title track actually. This is their most epic track, not only for its longer time duration of 6 minutes, but for its more varied content. Starting with ambient sounds and wind, followed by those devastating crushing tones, the faster frenzy takes off only to end with fire and flames. It would not be fair to end without mentioning the rather sick and wicked vocals of these guys, along with the occasional cool guitar solos.

Los Asesinos Del Sur is surely going to make the extreme black metal fan very satisfied.
