Debut four track EP from this energetic UK quartet Sons Of Icarus, another extremely talented young band that have already attracted plenty of admirers on the back of support shows with Black Stone Cherry, Rival Sons and Black Spiders. Very much in the Classic Hard Rock style of the aforementioned bands, on the evidence here Sons Of Icarus are clearly destined for great things, having the crossover appeal to attract both a younger fan base and grizzled old rockers such as the majority of my Sea of Tranquility colleagues . There is an assured swagger about the lead track "You Want It All" that is extended to a hypnotic seven minutes, carried along by the insistent riffing of guitarist Steve Balkwill and the tightly locked-in rhythm section. Vocalist Andy Masson does a fine job of evoking the 70's retro-vibe that defines their sound, combining a powerful delivery with clarity, confidence and no shortage of class.
Hopefully this won't jinx them but I have no hesitation in naming Sons Of Icarus my "Band to Watch in 2012" and I am already looking forward to hearing much more from them.
