The Italian power trio known as Black Rainbows have come up with a fun batch of heavy stoner rocker here on their third release Supermothafuzzalicious!!, out now on Heavy Psych Sounds/Longfellow Deeds. While not trying to reinvent the wheel, Black Rainbows takes their influences (Monster Magnet, Black Sabbath, Blue Cheer, Kyuss, MC5, Queens of the Stone Age, Blue Oyster Cult, and The Stooges) and tosses in some of their own characteristics on 10 songs that will have you pulling out the air guitar and crackin' open a cold one. With this kind of stuff, it's all about the riffs, and you get plenty of them here, especially on tracks like "Mother of the Sun", "Mastermind", "Lady", and "Solar System". Guitarist Gabriele Fiori lays down a wide assortment of crunchy, blues soaked proto-metal riffs throughout, and his James Hetfield-meets-John Kay styled vocals fit the bill perfectly. Fans of Aerosmith's early work will love the dirty & raunchy "Brain Circles", and the super boogie of "I Love Rock 'n' Roll" will instantly remind of vintage Foghat. Toss in some occasional spacey synth effects which give that psychedelic vibe, and you have an enjoyable retro ride that should appeal to most hard rock lovers who can't get wait to find that new soundtrack to their next leather jacket & motorcycle party.
Supermothafuzzalicious!! is a lean, mean, well oiled heavy rock machine from Black Rainbows, and recommended to stoner fans of all ages.
