BlancaWhite: Resurgence of Rock
Billed as a "Hard Rock grass roots revolution", BlancaWhite is the brainchild of international lawyer Ken Savage and brothers Austin and Rick Schell. Their idea of combining different artists to create a Classic Rock album, featuring the talents of 80's vocalists Paul Shortino (QUIET RIOT,ROUGH CUTT and KING KOBRA), Terry Ilous (XYZ and GREAT WHITE), Lorraine Lewis (FEMME FATALE and L.A. NOOKIE), and Jeff Paris (CINDERELLA, VIXEN, SLASH and KEBMO), goes for that 70's & 80's Classic Rock sound with elements of a modern approach.
This 9 track CD is horrendously under produced with a drum sound that rivals that of the worst tones of the electronic drum sounds of the 80's.Tommy Tutone would love the awful tone found here and the guitar sounds aren't much better! The songs find less than stellar performances from all involved, which isn't a surprise as each song is worse than the next. They list influences as being AC/DC, Priest, Def Leppard and Van Halen, but nary a note contained within would even resemble a tone from any of those bands. Not a single song would even classify as a Hard Rock tune, in my opinion. Everything is midpaced, with no peaks or valleys and just doesn't grab your attention at all. All of the songs here sound like something that you might hear on an Indie Classic Rock station (does that even exist?) that played songs from local bands that were just not very good.
This is not a resurgence of rock, by any means. Does it have a Classic Rock feel? Yes, it does. Is it any good? No, it isn't. The production is terrible and the songs aren't much better. Bottom line is the songs are bad and where do you from there? The less is more approach was obviously used here to try and create that 70's feel but the use of clichéd lyrics and uninspired performances leave this record being a dud. The Hard Rock Grass Revolution has been cancelled. Avoid this one; otherwise it will bore you to death.
