Beaten To Death: Xes And Strokes
With a name like Beaten To Death, it can only mean grind, death, and hardcore violence delivered swiftly and directly to the cranium. And so it does. Xes And Strokes is the blunt instrument that Oslo's Beaten To Death wish to bludgeon us out of existence with. With tracks averaging two minutes, each track pushes, pulls, tears, bites, chews, and spits ferocity. Neck breaking from the outset, Beaten To Death incorporate melody into the riffs that are sandwiched between lunatic drumming, concrete-chomping vocals, huge distorted bass-lines, and brick wall riffage. When Beaten To Death get down and dirty, the tracks are good but do little to mark them out as singular or original. It's the melodic and, for lack of a better term, "experimental" elements of the album that stand out, but they stand alone, and in this respect the album doesn't quite achieve what it may have. But the album is far from bad. This is some top quality grind with a bunch of unconventional elements that provide for an interesting and varied listen. Beaten To Death are worth checking out and definitely worth keeping an eye on.
