Bejelit are a totally new name to me despite Emerge being their fourth album. According to their press people their selling points are that they play, "Heterogeneous and energetic Power Metal enriched by deep lyrical themes and epic scenarios. Instruments such as accordions, classical guitars and violins have been added to the musical mix, giving it an unusual flair that will attract the most demanding audiences." I consider myself to be a fairly demanding audience and I find myself attracted by Emerge.
I'm particularly attracted by the Tony Kakko-like vocals and the fact that they are clearly trying to be as epic as possible which is always fun. They don't necessarily always reach the heights of the greatest names in the genre but there is a lot to admire. A case in point is the opener "The Darkest Hour" which is so much like Sonata Arctica it hurts but just isn't quite as good as the mighty Finns.
I think the album could be trimmed down to ten songs ("C4" does nothing for me at all and a couple of others are mediocre at best) but the strangely titled "Boogeyman" which completes the album is utterly dull and certainly leaves the listener on a downer when something more up-tempo is required.
